Wednesday 5th October at 3.00 pm.
In spite of being home to one of the oldest black communities in England, one of Liverpool’s uncomfortable truths is the lack of black males going into further and higher education.
‘Colour and Curriculum’ was made by black male students on the REACHing High project, part of the portfolio of projects, funded by Aimhigher Greater Merseyside in conjunction with the British Yourh Film Academy. They were supported and mentored by award-winning professional film-makers who provided technical and creative support for the film-making process. The result is a powerful, high-quality documentary film which investigates the causes and possible solutions to this huge issue. At times moving and engaging, but always distinctly thought-provoking, ’Colour and Curriculum’ features educators, teachers, parents, university students and black males themselves, discussing and debating the causes of this acute problem.
You are invited to a screening of ‘Colour and Curriculum’ at the University of Liverpool. The film will be introduced by Professor Kelvin Everest, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Liverpool, who features as one of the stars of the film.
The film will be screened on Wednesday 5th October at 3.00 pm. It is envisaged that the event will end at approximately 4.30pm at the Leggate Theatre, Victoria Gallery and Museum, Ashton Street, Liverpool L69 3DR.
This is a fantastic opportunity to see a ground-breaking documentary on an issue very rarely featured on the medium of film. You will have an opportunity to contribute to how the film might be used as a tool to raise awareness amongst educators and policy makers alike.
